Hometown Hoodies
Check out this sweet site we dropped last month for Quiksilver. http://hometownhoodies.quiksilver.com/
Lots of well thought out details in the design from loaders to rollovers. The flash dev is solid as well. Notice the flexibility and how the elements move independently from the background while maintaing a great composition. The transitions are pretty seamless too. Jason, one of our designers, took the pictures used in the background with his plastic Diana camera. Not too shabby.

Interactive Wonderwall Site Showcases Latest Flash 3D Techniques
Wonderwall, an interior design firm, recently launched a very playful 3D experience showcasing their work in a unique way. Simply hovering over the work brings it to life. Clicking on a project brings you to a detail view where they maintain the 3D aspect in the transitions. It's amazing how far ActionScript 3D libraries like PaperVision3D have come in recent years and this site is an excellent example of thoughtful interactivity.

Minimizing Complexity
Smashing magazine recently published an article about the benefits of minimizing complexity in user interfaces. This is a principle we strive to live by here at Cuker. You can check out the whole article here.

A Quik Peek Behind The (Green) Screen
Skateboarding is truly a universal sport. When you combine that with a truly universal and legendary brand such as Quiksilver, you know great things are going to happen. Lets add one of the greatest skateboarders of all time, Tony Hawk, to the equation and then you know you really have something special.
Quiksilver came to Cuker to create and execute a "Top Secret" viral campaign for their skate division. Working with a great team of project managers, technical directors, ramp builders and the Quik skate team, Cuker set out to create something that has never been seen before in the skate industry.
Without giving too much away, they ended up in a massive green screen studio in San Diego with the entire Quiksilver skate team ripping on a variety of green ramps built by Jeff King. The camera was rolling. The skaters were amped and flying. The vibe was good.
Tony Hawk was twittering about it. Fuel TV was documenting it. Cuker got the shots. They are now in the process of bringing the viral project to life on the web. Keep your eyes open for an update. The Quik Skate viral video will be out and ready to spread soon!

You can call us Cuker
When Madonna Louise Ciccone made the switch to the singular, well-known, recognizable Madonna it was quite an accomplishment. And while no one in this office will be wearing a risque wedding dress on stage or kissing Britney Spears (that we know of), we as well have accomplished quite a feat.
What was previously referred to as Cuker Design is now the singular, well-known, recognizable Cuker. When a noun no longer requires a modifier to make its purpose known, when a name becomes its own brand, you know something great has occurred. Now, this is not to sound pompous or overly confident, but we're not going to lie; we are proud of what we have accomplished in the last two years and we only plan on making an even bigger splash in the year to come.
2008 was a year of expansion and revelation for Cuker. We grew not only within our office but with our client base as well. Our eyes were opened to new possibilities and we have a feeling that in 2009 our true potential will be revealed.
So keep an eye out for Cuker as we move through the new year. We may just be that ray of light you never knew you always needed.
